Public constructions

Covering public buildings and surfaces

Structures with stretched membrane are widely used in the world (and more and more localy) for the construction of market canopies, stadiums, bus and train stations, archaeological sites, squares, atriums... These objects, thanks to their attractive designing, represent urban attractions that can be easily integrated both in the urban city core and in the less urban areas.

The advantages of these constructions are: attractiveness, ability to bridge long range, low weight of the entire construction with the ability to withstand any atmospheric influences and various types of loads.

Application and characteristics

Structures with stretched membrane found their application in the construction of public buildings which require efficiency in terms of construction time, without negative influence to the design and representation of the building itself.

This is achieved by combining a PVC membrane with a suitable construction (wood or steel), which makes it possible to achieve shapes and forms that would be difficult to construct using conventional building materials.

The main visual features of these structures are:

  • Transparency
  • Large surfaces that contribute to effect of monumentality
  • A game of light and shadow
  • Possibility to construct a variety of geometric shapes
  • Openness, accessibility
